Holidays around the corner....
I have a four day weekend this week. Christmas Eve we were planning to go to the Prado in Balboa Park for dinner. Now I guess we may be cooking at my house. Christmas day is booked with family things and then return to work for Wed thru Fri. This weekend, more of doing nothing and getting my house a bit festiver, since people are coming over on Monday. This year has been good to my family and that I am thankful. I am currently thinking of my new years goals and what to accomplish and look forward to in 08.

Andy Warhol inspired ATC Swap

Not realizing how time goes by, I got a e-mail from our swap host that the Andy Warhol inspired ATCs were due tomorrow. I usually get my swaps out early. Tonight, I hadn't even started making them yet. Anyhow, I hauled ass and made 5 instead of the required 3...these are Andy's art and my collage making skills. Little shrines to Andy.

My trip to Vegas.....

Great weekend getaway. My husband, Ed's company sent us away to Vegas for the weekend at pretty much their expense. The plane fare, the rooms, Dinner, drinks and nightly shows were their treat to us.. it was a sweet treat. There was a lot going on, a championship rodeo and the big fight between Mayweather and Hatton, I guess loads of stars were in town for that as well as thousands of british tourists which is good for Vegas and the british (the pound is strong compared to our weak dollar). Speaking of dollars....we broke even, though I won in the end, Ed put in the money I profited at the casino. My first gamble a big 10 dollars. I put in the machine, the first 90 cents I put in I won another 10 dollars. My profit, 19.10. The second time I played, I put in 5 dollars and got $50 back, another win. Then I put in $16 on playing just for playing. Ed put in $40 in blackjack machines and I won another couple dollars at the airport. The dinners were extravagant. The dish I ordered the first night was the freerange chicken w/ smoked mashed potatoes and lobster bisque for the app. I had one champagne cocktail before dinner and a "cup" of champagne at the show. Ed had the fillet which had these potatoes that looked like cooked thumbs. Both the shows were "surprizes" the first show, I had seen a yr. and half ago in Vegas, that was the Cirque show "Ka", I thoroughly enjoyed the acrobatics and the beauty of the costumes, though the story is up for your own interpretation and probably gets lost in translation for most people, any Cirque production is a must see. After the first day, I was exhausted. I went back to the room. Ed went out for a few more hrs. after that and people watched, met some brits and then crawled back around 3a. I was sleeping like a log after getting sick on my drinks (I am a lightweight).

The next morning I woke up around 8ish-9ish, got my coffee clear across the casino, went back to the room and then we headed over to the Paris, Planet Hollywood area to go shopping and eat lunch. We didn't buy one thing at the mall, really impressed with myself. So many cool things at Urban Outfitters, but not one purchase. The H&M store was tiny, not a whole lot of selection, kind of disappointed after being at the stores in LA and NY. After the mall excursion, we went to the touristy spot, Mon ami Gabi. I had the steak sandwich w/ carmelized onions and frites, drink was a Mimosa. After the meal and walking around, we went back to the room for a long nap before our night on the town. By the way, we stayed at Caesars in their newest tower. The upgrade was built in 2005. Flat screen TV in mainroom, LCD in bathroom. light teal and light brown accented with dark brown couch and modern headboard. The room was nicer than most, I say it extended a good 200 ft. more than a normal hotel room. The bathroom was huge with seperated glass shower with a jacuzzi tub that had the whirlpool option, double sinks, the bathroom in its own little room, really like the setup. Next after the nap.... dinner and another show. The dinner was on top of the world at the Stratosphere. The food was good, but of course all of Vegas charges about ten percent more than a normal fancy restaurant. I ordered all sides, side of crab, caesar salad also... potatoes au gratin, green beans for the table to share. I had a sprite to drink. I was not feeling like the cocktails that night. So after dinner we headed back to Caesars to see Celine Dion. This was her final 6th performance at Caesars before Bette Midler takes over. I take back all the bad things I have said about Celine. She was gracious, wonderful and the show wasn't all her, there were beautifully done sets and dancers that were graceful and fluid. Her voice didn't crack once, she can really sing. She did sing a song in French which I understood the meme encore part but not really the other words. She also sung a song in Spanish which I didn't understand one word of. I didn't even think it was Spanish until she said gracias. That said, she did sing her newest song, she has been singing on tv, which at first, I didn't like but now I do. The night didn't end there... Ed and I went over to Paris planning to relax at the Piano bar Napoleans but found it was a party of dueling pianos. We staying for like 5 minutes before no longer finding it a relaxful place as in prior visits so we left for a almost closed bistro nearby for a beer. Then we walked back to Caesars to do more people watching. Caesars got rights to the Pussycat doll name and now features them at the nightclub and they also have their own little Casino area with corsetted dealers. The minimum table bet is $25, but even with that the seats were always full. Saw an old man flipping through dirty pool pics as he was playing on the card tables. Kind of puts the new in the old.. who knew. After all that excitement, again off to the room for a few winks before catching the mid morning flight back home. All in all, a good trip. Next time, I go to Vegas, Elton John and the Cirque show Love....March through April next yr. or Bette and Cirque Show Love this time next yr.

What a week.

A bunch of fires went off in San Diego. Over a thousand homes burned. Life was like a standstill on Monday and Tuesday. We were breathing unhealthy air and it was a bit eerie not seeing lots of cars on the road. It is ok now for us. But for those who had lost property, it is still rebuilding time for them. A lot went on and it is hard to think of how much really did happen. Fortunately, all is well for the Boyd family. I am thankful for all my family and friends in my life. Thanks to all the emails and phone calls from all over the map. Life should be back to normal on Tuesday. The kids return to school after 10 days off and I will continue working as I should (till I retire or win the lottery).

Back from the Cruise

Today is the first day back from the 7 day cruise we just took. It is also the first day since last Saturday nt. (8 days ago), I touched the internet or a computer. It was a good relaxing time, I am still swaying from being on a boat for so long. It was mostly sunny except for the last at sea day. Lots of beach time and got to parasail. Have a decent tan. I loved all the ports we stayed at for the day. Cabo, Matazlan and Puerto Vallarta. Cabo was mostly beach time, I got a massage on the beach and we sat at one of their local resorts for the day. In Matazlan, we relaxed at one of the resorts, used the pool and shopped a bit. This resort is where we have a time share if we wish to go to every yr. but most likely we will trade it out for something else. Puerto Vallarta, we went on this pirate ship, where they tried to entertain us, feed us etc.. I was a bit sea sick on that one, but then they let us play on their private beach for a few hrs. where it was nice and tropical. Relaxing yet fun, they had banana boats which the kids loved. Aaah the life. Till next vacation.

ONE day Left

Before I am gone for a week, no phone, no internet. Just me a boat and days in Mexico where I can lay on the sand and do nothing. All you can eat food there as well so that Elise and Ryan won't bug me about them being hungry all the time. I'm packed and ready to go. I never did go to the makeup French Class on Thurs. nt. but I went this morning. Also, had a facial. Always a treat. I can't wait to get away!!! Lots of dramamine is packed and I am ready my adventure!

Auvoir... Adios

Mexico here I come...

Count down 4 more days till retreat!
Cruising for 7 days, no phone, no internet (unless I wanna pay lots of money), more food and drink than I can handle and glorious water and sun!!!
O'well, This week I have yoga tomorrow night at 730 pm and Thurs. nt. is Makeup French Class (This is the class I will be missing the last day of my cruise). Tonight, I did advanced step class, for half the hr. class it was. I am not advanced, I am a beginner, I don't know what a mambo is... etc.. etc...I have two left feet and need instruction. I bought alcohol inks and some UTEE but forgot to buy the melting pot. So, I will need to spend some money maybe tomorrow before of after Yoga and buy a pot with my 40 percent off coupon. Then I can make cool pendants and whatever that melty stuff makes.
counting the days........

Weekends almost over.

O' gosh it went by fast. I still need to get dinner for the kids and I . Mc' D's night, next week we will be on a cruise where I will probably gain some lbs. I will try to offset it with the swimming pool or if they offer some yoga. Hmm I wonder how many calories shuffleboard burns. I spent a fortune at Michael's and Jo-Ann's this weekend, got enough cool stuff to last me, even though I am sure I will forget all the cool stuff and buy more cool stuff later on. I made a cool canvas owl painting out of alcohol ink and stamp ink. I also bought some double stick tape so I can emboss and use fine glitter. Also, I joined a cool group that does swaps once a month starting in Jan. 08. There are 13 of us. http://swapitlikeitshot.blogspot.com/ I guess that is why I went crazy at the craft store (jk). Off to desperate housewives land.

My weekend up north..Fri.-Mon., Sept. 21-24

I went to Modesto, Cameron Park, Tracy and back to Modesto Again- Flew in and out of Sacramento. Cameron Park-It was good to see all my Grandmas, Cousins, Aunts, Uncles at my Grandfather's rememberance on Sat. afternoon, it was also good to see all the people that knew me when I was just a baby. It was a good way to remember my Grandpa Bill- he had a great life and the picture montage made me tear up. Tracy-I dragged my sister to a Tim Holtz Class. I was a big nerd/geek there. I knew my stuff. It was weird. Anyways, my sister didn't know there was a craft following for Tim and he was cool and funny and gave us a pickup thingamagingy for picking up little embellishments. Anyways, here are a few pics and the project I made. Modesto- Besides staying at my sister's house, taking a few side trips to Ross and Target: I saw my childhood friends for lunch on Sun and Mon. respectively. My Sunday lunch was with my friend Amy. She is a head checker/mgr. at a grocery store in Ceres, has 3 bio kids, 2 kids that are kind of hers for a total of 5 kids, crazy life from birth and is still in craziness, but she manages and looks well for all she's encountered. My Monday lunch was with Carrie, she is my friend from way back, like fourth grade, but we lost touch during our high school years and got back in touch a couple yrs. ago. She has 3 kids and a husband and lives in Riverbank, she makes hairbows as a side business and seems to be excelling in both the family and hairbow thingy. Anywho, on that matter- it was good to see everyone and my folks as well... Thanks mom and dad.

Overall it has been a lovely day.

Colorado Just got back from Fort Collins, CO. It is was a pow-wow of my husband's friends and their wives. It was all fun but my allergies (oye, vey), I got a partial and haircut while I was there at their local Aveda Salon. It was cheap, cheap. Got out of there including tip for a hundred. Nice. Anyways, I made a few new friends, though I will not ever play games with them. It is nice to meet new people. Toured the local brewery "fat tire" their motto is "follow your folly." That company rocks, if they relocated to San Diego, I would totally work there. You get a trip to belgium after 5yrs. of service. Anyways, I like the fact the whole town rides bikes and that they are enviromental except the fact you have to pay for your own recycling and it is not included in the local taxes or garbage fees. Will post pics as soon as I downsize them. Tomorrow, it is Labor Day.. No labor for me. Then back to the grind.

Tomorrow, I am off to Colorado. 3 days of unCalifornianess. So few of the days of my life are spent out of California. I am not sure what to expect. I have never been before. This trip is my husband Ed's doing. I am just following along in his footsteps for the next few days. I will bring a book as well and explore the culture and tastes of what is to be culinary Colorado. Other than that it is off to work in a few hours and then the same ol' same ol'. This is a good prelude to shake up my life a bit. An off kilter routine killer. What the heck, I need it.

This morning...
This morning was sad. but happy at the same time. Today is the last day of my little girl Elise's preschool, so I said goodbye to her teachers. It was a moment of transition, Elise will start kindergarden a week from tomorrow. The school closes the last week of August to clean and gear up for the upcoming year. Another sadness, the Starbucks on La Mesa Blvd. was also my last regular visit. I go there every morning after dropping Elise off and get my grande white mocha. SO it was pretty sad, but it wasn't like I am moving out of town or anything, I am just not going to be a regular in that neighborhood anymore.

Met with one of the mom's at Elise's school, she won the Next Food Network Star contest and will be having her own 6 episode show on tv in the fall. It was fun talking with her, she is just a mom, but I say she is a mom with huge talent. Good luck Amy!

Still want that house (see previous entry), I have visions of sugarplums and pools in my head. I bought San Diego Home and Garden magazine this morning at Dixieline. I wanna get ideas. Till next time..

The house in my neighborhood

http://davidsonandco.com/properties.php?autop_ID=5

To move or not to move... this is a great house. It has glass doors from every bedroom, a pool, a zen garden courtyard. There are pluses and minuses in every decision. I love the house we are in but until touring openhouses in our neighborhood, nothing has got me thinking more than looking at the link above, except I saw this in person and it is what I would want in the house within the price range. There are after thoughts to this discovery. Our house is bigger and the money can be put into vast improvements to make our house a greater house. I guess it is the question of want vs. need. We don't need anything, we don't need new bathrooms, a pool in the back yard upgrades to the courtyard. It is just the want.... I guess if you just jump into a decision and go with it it hurts my head less than over analysing how much it costs every month and how much the additions will cost.. Well until next time, I am sure it will be something else.
