My trip to Vegas.....
Great weekend getaway. My husband, Ed's company sent us away to Vegas for the weekend at pretty much their expense. The plane fare, the rooms, Dinner, drinks and nightly shows were their treat to us.. it was a sweet treat. There was a lot going on, a championship rodeo and the big fight between Mayweather and Hatton, I guess loads of stars were in town for that as well as thousands of british tourists which is good for Vegas and the british (the pound is strong compared to our weak dollar). Speaking of dollars....we broke even, though I won in the end, Ed put in the money I profited at the casino. My first gamble a big 10 dollars. I put in the machine, the first 90 cents I put in I won another 10 dollars. My profit, 19.10. The second time I played, I put in 5 dollars and got $50 back, another win. Then I put in $16 on playing just for playing. Ed put in $40 in blackjack machines and I won another couple dollars at the airport. The dinners were extravagant. The dish I ordered the first night was the freerange chicken w/ smoked mashed potatoes and lobster bisque for the app. I had one champagne cocktail before dinner and a "cup" of champagne at the show. Ed had the fillet which had these potatoes that looked like cooked thumbs. Both the shows were "surprizes" the first show, I had seen a yr. and half ago in Vegas, that was the Cirque show "Ka", I thoroughly enjoyed the acrobatics and the beauty of the costumes, though the story is up for your own interpretation and probably gets lost in translation for most people, any Cirque production is a must see. After the first day, I was exhausted. I went back to the room. Ed went out for a few more hrs. after that and people watched, met some brits and then crawled back around 3a. I was sleeping like a log after getting sick on my drinks (I am a lightweight).
The next morning I woke up around 8ish-9ish, got my coffee clear across the casino, went back to the room and then we headed over to the Paris, Planet Hollywood area to go shopping and eat lunch. We didn't buy one thing at the mall, really impressed with myself. So many cool things at Urban Outfitters, but not one purchase. The H&M store was tiny, not a whole lot of selection, kind of disappointed after being at the stores in LA and NY. After the mall excursion, we went to the touristy spot, Mon ami Gabi. I had the steak sandwich w/ carmelized onions and frites, drink was a Mimosa. After the meal and walking around, we went back to the room for a long nap before our night on the town. By the way, we stayed at Caesars in their newest tower. The upgrade was built in 2005. Flat screen TV in mainroom, LCD in bathroom. light teal and light brown accented with dark brown couch and modern headboard. The room was nicer than most, I say it extended a good 200 ft. more than a normal hotel room. The bathroom was huge with seperated glass shower with a jacuzzi tub that had the whirlpool option, double sinks, the bathroom in its own little room, really like the setup. Next after the nap.... dinner and another show. The dinner was on top of the world at the Stratosphere. The food was good, but of course all of Vegas charges about ten percent more than a normal fancy restaurant. I ordered all sides, side of crab, caesar salad also... potatoes au gratin, green beans for the table to share. I had a sprite to drink. I was not feeling like the cocktails that night. So after dinner we headed back to Caesars to see Celine Dion. This was her final 6th performance at Caesars before Bette Midler takes over. I take back all the bad things I have said about Celine. She was gracious, wonderful and the show wasn't all her, there were beautifully done sets and dancers that were graceful and fluid. Her voice didn't crack once, she can really sing. She did sing a song in French which I understood the meme encore part but not really the other words. She also sung a song in Spanish which I didn't understand one word of. I didn't even think it was Spanish until she said gracias. That said, she did sing her newest song, she has been singing on tv, which at first, I didn't like but now I do. The night didn't end there... Ed and I went over to Paris planning to relax at the Piano bar Napoleans but found it was a party of dueling pianos. We staying for like 5 minutes before no longer finding it a relaxful place as in prior visits so we left for a almost closed bistro nearby for a beer. Then we walked back to Caesars to do more people watching. Caesars got rights to the Pussycat doll name and now features them at the nightclub and they also have their own little Casino area with corsetted dealers. The minimum table bet is $25, but even with that the seats were always full. Saw an old man flipping through dirty pool pics as he was playing on the card tables. Kind of puts the new in the old.. who knew. After all that excitement, again off to the room for a few winks before catching the mid morning flight back home. All in all, a good trip. Next time, I go to Vegas, Elton John and the Cirque show Love....March through April next yr. or Bette and Cirque Show Love this time next yr.
